Judy's Virtual Ride
Hi,
Osman and I will be out of town for the ride I signed up to lead on 8/26/06. I have made a cue sheet, and Frank P and
Ed K have both generously offered to lead the 60 mile option from Kirby Park, on Elkhorn Slough. The remaining problems
are:
- 1) I couldn't find anyone to lead the C+ ride, which starts at Nisene Marks/Soquel Dr. and is 96 miles long (gee, I wonder why not?).
- 2) I changed the B start from the advertised (in the newsletter) Moss Landing to Pezzini's Farm fruit stand off Nashua/Molera road exit from Highway 1 S. This is so everyone will be on the same route, and the C's can now meet the B's and have a break at Pezinni's!
- 3) The parking lot at Marina/Reservation Rd (Old K-Mart), the start of the A ride, is largely fenced off, but there is still plenty of room to park a few cars (so not really a problem).
So, unless someone wants a nice, flat century and volunteers for this one, the C+ ride will be canceled. If you start in Moss Landing, you won't see anyone else until Pezzini's. And don't worry about the fence at old K-Mart, you can still park there.
Other details:
Parking at Kirby has almost always been safe, but once 4 cars were broken into on a Tuesday ride. Hopefully it won't happen on Saturday, but don't leave valuables in your car! (Cars with alarm systems, even bogus ones, were not harmed, so consider that as well.)
There is a nice, new bike path on Castroville Rd, so it is included in the ride. Unfortunately it ends at a freeway entrance, and though it's legal and only 1/2 mile to the exit, riding on it can be disconcerting. If you would like to go cross-country through an artichoke field instead, there is a way, and someone will know it, ask around.
I will attach a cue sheet to this mail, let me know if I made any errors...
Have a great ride,

btw: Judy,
very nice cue sheet! I'm going to feature it on the web site. We constantly
get requests from touring cyclists looking for the best routes through Santa
Cruz to Monterey. Your sheet gives all the options. If anyone is out there that
is adept at making maps a .pdf (or hard copy) would be greatly appreciated.
