Cycling for Starters-Week 1-Spring Sessions

This 6 week Cycling for Starters Spring session begins Saturday, March 14.

Saturday sessions are held weekly through April 18.

What’s Cycling for Starters? Cycling for Starters is a free to club members, series of group cycling sessions designed specifically to build confidence through coached safety and bike handling skills instruction. We start with a cycling basics review, then build on more skills as we progress through the series. An opportunity to practice the learnings happen in a group ride immediately following each safety and skills instruction.

Here’s some of what you’ll learn:
How to check your bike to assure it’s in safe working order.
How to stop and start safely and in control.
How to safely ride in traffic. How and when to shift gears.
How to brake safely and in full control. How to emergency stop.
How to perform evasive, in control maneuvers to avoid crashes and collisions.
How to ride in a group.

By the end of the series, you will feel more street smart, safer and more confident on the bike. You will better understand how your bike functions in varying terrain, as well as the physics behind cycling, such as the importance of weight distribution during climbing and descending. In addition, you will travel many roads enjoyed on club group rides, and you may find your endurance level increase as we build on miles ridden.

We will celebrate the completion of the series with a Graduation Ride followed by an awards lunch (and beverages) at Beer Mule at the Watsonville airport.
